Dear Guest,

The US Constitution Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

At our meeting last Tuesday night, Walter Finkelstein - Co-founder of The Proud Majority - presented an overview of the US Constitution. In it, Walt drew parallels between the political situation in America around the time of the Revolutionary War to contemporary times. It was frightening to see the similarities today that led to the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

We have recorded Walt's presentation in its entirety and uploaded it to the "Past Meetings Videos" page on our website. To view it, simply click here.

Enforcing Election-Related Violations: The Tarrant County Texas Miracle

Dr. Natalie Lee Gardner is an enthusiastic new Manatee Patriots subscriber hailing from Marion County, Florida.  She has taken the time to review how Tarrant County, Texas has incorporated ways to enforce Election Law.  While similar in purpose to the Florida Office of Election Crimes and Security established in SB524 last year, Tarrant County's solution is executed at the county level allowing Election law crimes to be prosecuted more quickly.

Natalie has posted an insightful blog on our website which provides an extensive review of the Tarrant County model and suggests ways in which we can duplicate their efforts right here in Florida.  To read her intriguing piece, simply click this link.

Federal Appeals Court Upholds Florida 2021 Election Law

Last Thursday, a Federal Appeals Court reversed a ruling by an Obama-appointed Federal Judge to restrict new measures to strengthen the integrity of Florida elections.  Enacted under Senate Bill SB90, these provisions included restrictions on ballot drop boxes, such as requiring boxes to be manned by employees of the supervisor of elections and limiting their use to early-voting hours.  However, a suit was brought against this bill, signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2021, by the League of Women Voters (LWV).  The ruling last Thursday reinstates SB90.  To read more about this important decision, just click this link.

Superintendent Search: Meet The Finalists, Wednesday May 10

With the final selection for School Superintendent scheduled for May 16, the School Board of Manatee County has arranged two ways to get to know the 3 finalists better next week.  As seen in the graphic below, the in-person interviews will be televised live, next Wednesday, May 10 between 9am-3pm on MSTV.  To watch these interviews next week, just click this link.

Also, a Community "Meet & Greet" will be held next Wednesday, May 10 between 6 - 8pm at the Urban Loft at Manatee Central located at 902 Manatee Ave E in Bradenton.

All Manatee Patriots subscribers are urged to learn more about these candidates and let your School Board members know which individual you feel is best qualified to lead Manatee County Schools.

Volunteers Needed For Rocket Phonics This Summer

Our own Dr. Stephen Guffanti of the Rocket Phonics Foundation is seeking 10 highly motivated volunteers to assist with a summer reading program for third graders here in Manatee County.  As you know, Rocket Phonics has proven to be wildly a successful approach to improving reading ability in lower grades.  This is a wonderful opportunity to help our community to grow in the right direction.  To learn more call or text (760) 613-8617.  You will be glad you did!
