While most folks sit back and relax during Summer Break, our devoted staff has been diligently working to finalize our Fall lineup of speakers. And we are sure that you won't be disappointed!
We kickoff our return from Summer Break with State Senator Jim Boyd as our featured speaker on Tuesday, September 19. Senator Boyd has been a champion of Insurance reform and with legislative committees convening in October, this will be a great opportunity to get some insights into the agenda for the next legislative session.
| |
You will be pleased to know that Senator Boyd isn't the only official in our list of scheduled speakers this Fall. We also have newly appointed Manatee County Commissioner for District 5 - Ray Turner - joining us on Tuesday, November 28. As Commissioner Turner was recently appointed to replace Vanessa Baugh, this will be a unique opportunity for folks to learn more about his background and beliefs. You won't want to miss his presentation.

Over the past few months we have been closely following the work of our friends at Victims of Communism - Manatee, Inc. They have rolled out an attractive Scholarship program with the aim of educating high school students in Manatee County on the evils of Communism. (Please see their appeal for donations later in this newsletter). They accomplish this by having students enroll in a workshop to hear directly from people who lived under Communist regimes.
To help raise awareness of their efforts and to participate in the official observance of November 7 - Victims of Communism Day in the State of Florida - we have arranged for a very special featured speaker for our meeting on November 7...

Jamie Arellano is a journalist and former political prisoner of the Ortega regime in Nicaragua. Exiled and now living in the US, Jamie is known as "The Voice of Nicaragua" and is a vocal opponent of Daniel Ortega and his socialist/Communist cronies. You should know that Ortega recently froze the bank accounts of the Roman Catholic Order of the Society of Jesus (also known as the Jesuits), seized their property and dissolved the order's legal status in Nicaragua. So like the students at the Victims of Communism workshop, you too will be able to hear directly from a survivor of tyranny as Mr. Arellano shares his experiences. This is one presentation you will want to bring your family to!
This is just a brief sample of what we have in store for you. So check out our our full calendar at https://manateepatriots.us .

From Victims of Communism-Manatee Inc. Help Preserve Future Generations
| |
Last year, Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation establishing November 7 as “Victims of Communism Day”. The law states that on or about this day, Florida high school students enrolled in classes on US Government must receive at least 45 minutes of instruction on such topics as Joseph Stalin, Fidel Castro, Pol Pot and how victims suffered under these regimes.
However, we feel that only 45 minutes of instruction is inadequate to reveal the true depth of the evils of Communism to future generations of Floridians. In response, we have formed Victims of Communism-Manatee, Inc., a 501(c) (3) Not for Profit organization to enable high school students to learn firsthand about the horrors of Communism by hearing from people who have endured life under a Communist regime. To encourage students to participate, we have established a competitive Scholarship Program for students in Manatee County public, private and home schools. But we cannot do this without your help. We are asking for your tax-deductible donation to help fund our scholarship program. To learn more about this important program and to make an online donation, please click the button below. Your generous donation will go a long way toward preserving future generations of Floridians.
