Dear Guest Guest, | |
| |
| |
This doesn't happen often as we confirm our speakers far in advance. However, due to unforeseen circumstances both of our local Florida Senators had to cancel their presentations originally scheduled for last Tuesday night's meeting. But through the good offices of Marnie Matarese - Secretary of the MCREC and board member of the Cedar Hammock Fire District - we had the pleasure of hearing Chief Kyle Bradshaw of the Cedar Hammock Fire District.
Chief Bradshaw delivered an impressive and intensely interesting talk on all aspects of the operation of his Fire District. Clearly in command of the facts, Chief Bradshaw shared tons of insights into his operation. For instance, during 2022 his organization responded to just 159 fires but handled over 5,000 medical emergencies! We learned that fire departments do not dispense medications and that a new fire engine costs over $800,000 with a 3-year lead time. In all it was a fascinating and informative presentation for which we are indebted to the Fire Chief. We hope to have him back in the future.
We have recorded Chief Bradshaw's presentation in its entirety and have uploaded it to the "Past Meetings Videos" page on our website. To go there now, simply click this link.

From Victims of Communism-Manatee Inc. Help Preserve Future Generations
| |
Last year, Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation establishing November 7 as “Victims of Communism Day”. The law states that on or about this day, Florida high school students enrolled in classes on US Government must receive at least 45 minutes of instruction on such topics as Joseph Stalin, Fidel Castro, Pol Pot and how victims suffered under these regimes.
However, we feel that only 45 minutes of instruction is inadequate to reveal the true depth of the evils of Communism to future generations of Floridians. In response, we have formed Victims of Communism-Manatee, Inc., a 501(c) (3) Not for Profit organization to enable high school students to learn firsthand about the horrors of Communism by hearing from people who have endured life under a Communist regime. To encourage students to participate, we have established a competitive Scholarship Program for students in Manatee County public, private and home schools. But we cannot do this without your help. We are asking for your tax-deductible donation to help fund our scholarship program. To learn more about this important program and to make an online donation, please click the button below. Your generous donation will go a long way toward preserving future generations of Floridians.
