Dear Guest,

Just In Time For Easter

Dena Espenschied of the Leadership Institute returns to Manatee Patriots next Tuesday, April 4.  As it is Easter and Passover season, Dena's presentation will provide essential advice on how to speak with liberal friends and family. Our president Jack May will extend Dena's discuss on communication and how it applies to our Connection Builders program.  And don't forget, Dena will be graciously providing the catering so there is no need to bring a potluck dinner item.

So you won't want to miss our next meeting at Mixon Farms Tuesday at 6pm.

Speaker Bio:  Dena Espenschied

Dena is a veteran of political campaigns as small as city council and as large as a presidential campaign. She has served in most campaign positions, including volunteer coordinator, regional field director, political director, and statewide spokesperson. She has overseen ballot qualification, volunteer recruitment and training, and get-out-the-vote efforts. She has formulated communication strategies, organized events, and done personal solicitation. In campaign and public policy, Dena is a “Jill of all Trades”.

Two Additions To Our Superintendent Survey

A competent School Superintendent is critical to the success of any public school system.  So we are a bit disappointed that only 2 votes have been cast in our Superintendent Survey.

Manatee County citizens are being offered a unique glimpse into the current search process. To review the current candidates just click this link.  You will notice that there are now 6 candidates applying for the position.

The deadline for applications is April 10.  So we strongly suggest that everyone review these submissions as soon as possible.

After reviewing the applicants, cast your vote for your favorite candidate. Please note that we have added a "None" option to this survey. You will be restricted to vote only once.  And magically, the results will be displayed in real time on the home page of our website!  So cast your vote and see where your favorite candidate stands.  Just click the handy button below.

One Nation Under God?

In their report on the most recent Board of County Commissioners meeting, the League of Women Voters of Manatee County stated:

"Religion has no place in a government meeting. Beardon quoted Bible scriptures in his opening remarks to justify his Resolution to make Manatee County a gun sanctuary and called the right to bear arms a God-given right."

In response to this outlandish statement, our president - Jack May - sent this organization this note:

"I believe your comments concerning the 1st Amendment rights of Commissioner Beardon’s religious comments and mentioning Bible Scriptures represents a gross misunderstanding of what he doctrine of separation of church and state.  Good governance requires the wisdom and understanding that can only be gotten through the knowledge and use of Scripture.

As you know, there is no prohibition in any of the founding documents that would prohibit Commissioner Beardon from making his comments in any public government forum.

You may disagree, but I am surprised you would make it a part of your comments on governance.  Unless of course you believe elected officials do not have the same rights as yourself.

Regards,

Jack May"
