Attorney Sean Powers will be the featured speaker at our next meeting on Tuesday, December 6. Mr. Powers is a principal in the firm of McNary Powers LLC and will be speaking on an important issue related to 2nd Amendment rights: Risk Protection Orders (RPO).


Tuesday was the kickoff of a series of Commitment Nights for newly elected officials. Lisa Gonzalez Moore, recently elected to the Bradenton City Council Ward 4 City of Bradenton position, delivered an in-depth presentation of her vision for the City of Bradenton. She strongly advocated for a new Strategic Plan for the City and acknowledged that traffic continues to be a major issue. She also discussed the plans for the sale of the old City Hall building and the relocation of City Hall and the Police department. She also stressed the need to better coordinate efforts with the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners. Lisa is committed to improving the communication channels with the public and looks build relationships with the City and County officials. Lisa brings a fresh new perspective to City government and we are sure that she will be an effective representative. Get ready to kickoff the New Year on a fast track!  Newly elected Palmetto City Commissioner, Ward 2 - Sunshine Mathews -  County Commissioner for District 4 - Mike Rahn - and Vice-Chair of the Manatee County School Board - Cindy Spray - will participate in the next of our series of Commitment Nights scheduled for Tuesday, January 3.  Come and experience representative government in action!  Questions may be submitted in advance using the "Contact" form on our website.

Speaker Bio:  Sean Powers


Sean was raised in Bradenton, Florida, attending St. Joseph’s Catholic School from Kindergarten to Eighth Grade and later attending and graduating from Manatee High School. He then attended the Florida State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs and a Master of Science in Information Studies.


While in graduate school Sean worked in the smart card industry in Tallahassee, Florida, managing ID card systems for various universities and corporate clients. Following that Sean worked at Hewlett Packard helping to implement a global internal help desk at Microsoft in Seattle, Washington.


Later, Sean enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was deployed to Okinawa, Japan, Kabul, Afghanistan, and Fallujah, Iraq. Sean reached the rank of Sergeant and received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Medal, and the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation. Sean was a Fire Direction Chief in the 81mm mortar platoon in Weapons Company, Second Battalion, Sixth Marine Regiment, and a Marine Combat Instructor of Water Survival.


After four years of honorable service, Sean returned to Bradenton, where he married his wife Anna in 2008. Sean assisted his wife in running her wedding planning company, Day Planners, while also working in the local restaurant industry facilitating in the operation and opening of fine dining facilities on Anna Maria Island and Lakewood Ranch. Eventually, Sean decided to attend Ave Maria School of Law, and once admitted to the Florida Bar, Sean worked with the Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel defending indigent clients in Juvenile Dependency, Juvenile Delinquency, Misdemeanor, and Felony court. Sean then worked at Najmy Thompson, PL, in Bradenton, Florida as a civil litigator and was able to continue to represent the indigent as a part of his devotion to assisting those in need. Following Najmy Thompson, Sean worked at Lydecker, LLP, a national law firm practicing in bodily injury defense, premises liability defense, tort liability defense and general civil litigation. Sean has litigated small claims cases, multi-million dollar injury claims, probate matters, construction matters, family matters, the smallest misdemeanor to second chairing a first degree murder defense. His courtroom experience is extremely diverse and he treats every matter as if it is the most important.

Sean continues to serve as a pro-bono attorney for foster children as an Attorney Ad Litem in Manatee and DeSoto Counties.


In the past, Sean has volunteered with Big Brothers & Big Sisters and served as a mentor in Veterans Court, a specialty court that seeks to address underlying conditions of veterans accused of crimes.

We all worked very hard to get Richard Tatem, Chad Choate and Cindy Spray elected.  So it was particularly gratifying to see all 3 former candidates assume their seats on the Manatee County School Board recently.  Our friend Deanna Brinkley was able to capture the moment as well as proceedings from their first school board meeting.  You can view these videos by clicking this link

     

Manatee Patriots Potluck Christmas Party


    

We are pleased to announce that the annual Manatee Patriots Christmas Party will be held during our last meeting before the Christmas break on Tuesday, December 13.  This will be a traditional potluck event with all attendees encouraged to bring menu items with a Christmas theme.  This is your chance to show off your latest Christmas recipe before the holidays!  So come cheerful and be prepared to share some Christmas joy...and goodies! 

     

Sign The FCA Petition To Protect Our Children

  

The Florida Citizens Alliance (FCA) has long been known as a leading organization dedicated to improving Florida's K-12 education system.  In a drive to remove pornographic material from our schools, they have created a petition intended for Gov.
